About Rutger Zaal

Rutger Zaal is a partner at AKD. He assists clients on international tax matters in a variety of transactions including real estate investments, mergers, acquisitions and financing.

Rutger’s clients include private equity firms, multinationals and asset managers, mainly from North America. His strength is to provide robust solutions for complicated tax matters that arise in international transactions. He is appreciated by his clients for his pro-active approach and practical advice.

Rutger is a member of the International Tax Practice group of AKD and is based in Luxembourg.

Rutger has over 20 years of experience in providing tax advice and tax compliance services. He has worked in the Amsterdam, New York and Luxembourg. Highlights of his work include advising on the acquisition of a landmark site in London, various natural resources projects in Canada and Europe and large logistics real estate acquisitions across Europe. Rutger also assisted a number of his clients with setting up offices in Luxembourg.

Rutger contributed to the Luxembourg chapter of one of the Corporate Tax Practice Series for a number of years. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) including the US and Canadian Branches thereof, the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF) and the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB). Rutger is a frequent participant in tax conferences of the organizations of which he is a member. Rutger is not admitted to the Luxembourg Bar.
