About Petra van Pul-Koens

Having joined AKD in 1990, Petra has worked for several of its practice groups since.

In 2004, Petra joined the Intellectual Property, IT & Data Protection team. With her extensive experience, she is a valued member of the team.

A paralegal, Petra focuses in particular on trademarks and designs, their registration and the enforcement of rights when customs officers intercept counterfeit goods.

Registration and administration of trademarks and designs
First and foremost, Petra's experience registering trademarks and designs in the Netherlands and abroad is vast. She has been involved in availability searches and drafting and filing applications for trademarks and designs with such authorities as the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, the European Intellectual Property Office and the International Office of the World Intellectual Property Organisation. Naturally, she also follows up on the “office actions” of the relevant intellectual property offices and is brought in on actions by third parties opposing the grant of trademark and/or design rights.

On the administration side, Petra is instrumental in monitoring trademark applications, should younger trademarks conflict with trademarks AKD administers for its clients.

Petra has built strong relationships with the foreign firms AKD tends to collaborate with for the purpose of registering trademarks and/or designs abroad.

Anti-counterfeiting
Anti-counterfeiting is an area in which Petra has accumulated broad experience. Her particular strength lies in customs actions, such as filing requests for intervention and following up on reports of imports of counterfeit goods.

Education
In 2017, Petra completed the Trademarks and Design Rights course for paralegals offered by the Benelux Association for Trademarks and Designs, BMM.
