About Karst Vriesendorp

Karst Vriesendorp is a lawyer at AKD and a member of the EU and Competition Law team. Specialising in European law, Karst operates from AKD's Brussels and Rotterdam offices. His practice primarily focuses on state aid, competition and procurement law, the free movement of services, and the Foreign Subsidies Regulation.

Karst provides advisory and litigation services, including guidance on governments' abilities to grant subsidies and compensate undertakings for services of general economic interest in compliance with EU state aid law. Additionally, he regularly publishes articles on such subjects as services of general economic interest, the Services Directive, and the Foreign Subsidy Regulation, and delivers an annual guest lecture on the Services Directive at Leiden University.

Karst earned bachelor's degrees in Law and in International Relations from the University of Groningen. He furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree in Law from the University of Leiden and completing the French and English-language LL.M European Law programme at the College of Europe in Bruges. Prior to joining AKD, Karst completed traineeships at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
